The Sub Bass adds nice booming bass (be careful if you also use the low boost in the excitifier).

Use the bypass button to listen to the treated/untreated sound. I then back up till I don't hear the distinctive sound it makes anymore then back a little more. I usually turn the 'Mix' half-way and do my settings. The one you'll most likely use first is the Green Oak excitifier (take a look at the docs here: ). Some free plugins come with Audio Hijack. One of the advantage is that you'll hear better what you do, and you will also sound good even on a not well tuned or crap system. And if you choose your plugs wisely and tune them well, the resulting sound can be life changing. The shift in latency can't be felt, even when you get reasonably heavy on the number of plugins you use. It takes the sound of any app, add some VST (or AU) to it, and hands it back to the sound card. True, people won't be able to really hear the difference, but trust me, they'll feel it. Add to that a big pumping system, and you'll sound worse than the guy who is playing vinyl or CD. Mp3, even when they are well encoded (and you bet mine are*), just lack something in brilliance and punch.
